Dear Families and Friends of

Immaculate Heart of Mary,

Today’s gospel continues the series of parables we have heard for the last several weeks. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that Jesus’ invitation to the kingdom comes in the form of parables: “Through his parables, he invites people to the feast of the kingdom, but he also asks for a radical choice: to gain the kingdom, one must give everything. Words are not enough, deeds are required. The parables are like mirrors…” (546). If parables are like mirrors, how would we respond in the situation of the treasure buried in the field? Are we willing to risk utterly everything for the sake of the kingdom? Just as the first bearers of Jesus’ parables were confronted with a choice, we too must ask ourselves an essential question: What are we willing to do for God? This is not a one and done decision, but a process that evolves over our lifetime. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

Imaculado Corazon de Maria,

El evangelio de hoy continúa la serie de parábolas que hemos escuchado durante las últimas semanas. El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica nos dice que la invitación de Jesús al reino se presenta en forma de parábolas: "A través de sus parábolas, invita a la gente a la fiesta del reino, pero también pide una elección radical: para ganar el reino, hay que darlo todo. Las palabras no son suficientes, se requieren acciones. Las parábolas son como espejos..." (546). Si las parábolas son como espejos, ¿cómo responderíamos en la situación del tesoro enterrado en el campo? ¿Estamos dispuestos a arriesgarlo todo por el bien del reino? Así como los primeros portadores de las parábolas de Jesús se enfrentaron a una elección, nosotros también debemos hacernos una pregunta esencial: ¿Qué estamos dispuestos a hacer por Dios? No es una decisión única y listo, sino un proceso que evoluciona a lo largo de nuestra vida. Inmaculado Corazón de María, ruega por nosotros.
