Immaculate Heart of Mary,

Today’ s gospel reading is the conclusion of Matthew’s account. In many ways, it is the summation of the entire gospel. Jesus reminds us of his authority, noting, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” But he does not stop there. Through his authority, Jesus grants the disciples power to baptize and make disciples of all nations. And Jesus gives us the same instruction: “Go!” Like the disciples, we are called to make disciples, baptize, and teach in the name of Jesus. It is important that while answering this call we remember that Vatican II affirmed in the Declaration on the Relation of the Church to non-Christian Religions: “The Church reproves, as foreign to the mind of Christ, any discrimination against people or of any harassment of them on the basis of their race, color, condition in life or religion” (Nostra Aetate 5). Yes, we are called to evangelize but we must do so in a way that affirms the God-given dignity of each and every person. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

Imaculado Corazon de Maria,

La lectura del evangelio de hoy es la conclusión del relato de Mateo. En muchos sentidos, es la suma de todo el evangelio. Jesús nos recuerda su autoridad, señalando: "Todo poder en el cielo y en la tierra me ha sido dado." Pero no se detiene ahí. A través de su autoridad, Jesús concede a los discípulos el poder de bautizar y hacer discípulos de todas las naciones. Y Jesús nos da la misma instrucción: "¡Id!" Como los discípulos, estamos llamados a hacer discípulos, bautizar y enseñar en el nombre de Jesús. Es importante que, al responder a este llamamiento, recordemos que el Vaticano II afirmó en la Declaración sobre la Relación de la Iglesia con las religiones no cristianas: La Iglesia aprueba, como ajena a la mente de Cristo, cualquier discriminación contra las personas o cualquier acoso hacia ellas por motivos de raza, color, condición de vida o religión" (Nostra Aetate 5). Sí, estamos llamados a evangelizar, pero debemos hacerlo de una manera que afirme la dignidad dada por Dios a cada persona. Inmaculado Corazón de María, ruega por nosotros.
